2010 Weddings!

Welcome to 2010 bridal season! As the year continues to draw new guests and friends into the salon, I am excited to see what will be created. The new styles we are seeing for 2010 are a bit sleeker than last year, and a bit more simple. I love the clean lines featured on the Red Carpet at the Oscars! Miss Sandra Bullock wore a gorgeous gown, complimented by a sleek, polished hairstyle that tucked behind one ear and showed off her cheek bones. Don't get me wrong, I still love beachy, flowy, "undone" hair but its a nice to see style evolve. Above are a few of my favorite Red Carpet looks from recent events.

Cheers!

Allie Lindsey Photography

Yesterday the salon and I shot some photos with Allison Smoley of Allie Lindsey Photography. The purpose of the shoot was to build our salon portfolio and we had so much fun with the looks. I never seem to get photos of my cut and color work so this was a great opportunity to do something creative! Allie did a wonderful job capturing the angles and colors on all the hairstyles and was great to work with. You can view her facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/#/pages/San-Diego-CA/Allie-Lindsey-Photography/249171514470?ref=ts. Thanks to my awesome model Kelly for allowing me to transform her look and being so amazing in front of the camera!

Last night I was honored to join the UNITE artistic team in styling hair for the Jesus Estrada fashion premier! I had such a wonderful time experiencing all of what goes on behind the scenes at a fashion show. The hair all looked rockin and the whole team was great to work with. Jesus is definetly one to watch out for, his designs are fabulous! Be sure to keep watching season 7 of Project Runway to see how he does. Here are a few photos from last night. Cheers!

Today was the Kiss the Bride Bridal Faire at Pala Casino. The salon and I got to style the hair for the models in the fashion show. We had such a great time and met some prospective clients along the way. This year we had alot more traffic by our booth so I am expecting this to be a wonderful bridal season! Here are a few photos I snapped in my down time. :) Cheers!

For Brides to Be- I was surfing the web and came across these gorgeous hair pieces on www.twigsandhoney.com. They are so timeless and elegant and would compliment a whimsical, romantic, or vintage hairstyle on your special day. Take a look through the website...it definetly worth it.

Winter Trends

1. Short Hair! The short crops are in with the Hollywood celebs and easy to take care of aswell.Sporting these do's will only take minutes by adding a bit of pomade or texture cream for separation.

2.Color- Reds and rich brunettes are a huge trend and personally, I tend to love warmer tones this time of year. Instead of drastic contrasts of color, try panels of rich copper over a chestnut base color. Stick with tones that compliment eachother for a harmonious affect. If you allready have a deep color, try a few highlights of carmel around your face to brighten the eyes.

The beach in January

Only in sunny California can you take a trip to the beach in January! The girls, grandma and I went to Carlsbad for a short-lived date with the ocean. The twins are a little to young and once the sand went into the mouths...we were done! :) At least some cute photos resulted from the trip.

Beauty Tip for 2010!

Ok Ladies and Gents, here is my big beauty tip for 2010...(drumroll)...

Reinvent your look for a fresh start! The change doesn't have to be drastic, even the smallest transition can invoke a lift in your spirit. My advice is to try something new, a new shade, a few highlights, maybe a new fringe to make your eyes pop. Whatever makes you feel special...I say just go for it!

JMK Hair Design - Introductions

For my very first blog entry, I thought I'd introduce myself and what I do. My name is Jessie Kenney and I am a hair stylist specializing in precision cuts, color and special event styling. I began my college career as an art major and transitioned my creative nature into hair design. I love what I do and I have a passion for hair as an art form. Having someone sit in your chair for the first time, speaking to them about who they are and what their lifestyle is like and then giving them a look that will make them feel and look amazing is what this job is all about. I love meeting new people and making a connection with them. My love for hair artistry comes directly from my love for nature, art, photography, and fashion. I believe all those things intertwine to create something truly beautiful.
On the personal side, I have an amazing family, a wonderful husband and 3 adorable girls. They are what brings me true joy! I love seeing their shining faces when I come home at night. Well, thats me in a nutshell! Please check back for updates, photos and more!
